Terminal layout
Heathrow Airport is made up of five terminals, each with a large array of services and facilities for business and leisure travellers that you can find detailed in our terminal guides below. Connecting between terminals is easy. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are a short walk from each other (approximately 10 minutes), while terminals 4 and 5 are serviced by free buses and trains. You should allow a minimum of 20 minutes if transferring to terminal 4 or 5. There are three rail stations at the airport. Terminals 4 and 5 have their own stations and the other terminals are serviced by Heathrow Central station. Rail services include the Heathrow Express service to London Paddington, the Heathrow Connect service which calls at all stations between the airport and Paddington and the London Underground that connects the airport with central London via the Piccadilly line. The Central bus station is served by many local bus routes as well as National Express services to other airports and destinations across the UK. Licenced Taxis are available from taxi ranks outside each of the terminals.

Check-in
Check-in is located on the First floor of Terminal 1. To find your check-in zone, simply consult the flight information screens located throughout departures. You can then follow the illuminated yellow cubes that point you in the right direction.
Make sure you allow plenty of time to check in. As a general rule, it is advisable to check in 3 hours before departure of Long Haul flights, 2 hours before the scheduled departure of Europe flights and 90 minutes before the scheduled departure of UK and Ireland flights.
Leisure and family facilities
Baby changing
Heathrow Terminal 1 has plenty of baby changing facilities, located both before and after security. They are clearly signposted for your convenience.
Pushchairs
Pushchairs can be taken all the way to the departure gate, though it will be necessary to take your child out of the pushchair when you go through security. Arrangements for taking pushchairs on the aircraft and returning them afterwards depend on your airline and destination, so make sure to consult with your airline before you fly.
Play areas
Heathrow Terminal 1 has an excellent play area to entertain children and keep time from dragging on. This free Stay & Play has separate baby and junior zones and offers endless fun and activity, with slides and soft play areas. It is open for children between the ages of 0 - 9 who must be accompanied by an adult at all times. It is open from 06:00 - 21:00 every day. You will find the Stay & Play area located after security in the departure lounge near Café Nero & Dixons.
Baby milk
It is now possible to take more than the standard 100ml of baby food through security, provided that this is for the sole purpose of your journey. However, you can also stock up on baby foods after security in Boots, who also run a pre-order and collect service. You can do this either on Heathrow's website or directly with Boots.
Information desk
Heathrow Airport Terminal 1 has roaming airport ambassadors. They are there to help you with your journey and answer all your questions. So don't hesitate to catch their attention if in doubt. You can recognise them from their purple uniforms!
There are also several passenger help points located within the terminal. These have telephones from which you can call a porter for assistance with your luggage. The help points are signposted and are found in key locations.
Shopping
Terminal 1 is not a terminal for serious shopping, compared to some of Heathrow's other terminals. However, you will still be able to find shops that meet your travel needs such as
BHRC Tourist Services (Arrivals), Boots (after Security), Dixons Travel (after Security), WHSmith (Arrivals) and of course World Duty Free.
World Duty Free offer some free beauty services (express makeovers, mini facials, arm massages) should you wish to pamper yourself before you board your plane. Heathrow's website provides a list of available treatments.
BHRC Tourist Services also acts as Terminal 1's Shop & Collect point.
Food & drink
Heathrow Terminal 1 has some excellent family friendly eating options. Our pick for families is Giraffe, located after security, which has colouring sheets for children, children's menus and a wide choice of cuisines on their very global menu.
Plane spotting
For excellent views of the runway, try The Tin Goose, Café Nero or Costa Coffee, all located in T1's departure lounge.

Getting online & staying connected
Heathrow Airport offers a generous amount of Wi-Fi. Every passenger is entitled to 4 hours free Wi-Fi. It is available by selecting _Heathrow Wi-Fi and then following the instructions on your device. Should you need more time, Heathrow offers an additional 4 hours Wi-Fi with Heathrow Rewards. You can sign up to Heathrow rewards and collect points for everything you do at Heathrow via their website. If your session has expired and you still require wireless internet access, then there is a pay-as-you-go Wi-Fi service, meaning you are never without internet if you need it.
If you do not have a device from which to access Wi-Fi, then Heathrow has a number of internet terminals. These are pay-as-you-go computer desks. The ones located before security also have printing facilities.
If you need to charge your device, Terminal 1 has free power poles both before and after security. They are compatible with both UK and EU plugs, as well as USBs.
Special assistance
If you require special assistance when travelling through the airport terminal, you should book this in advance; either with your airline or through your travel agent or tour operator. This should be done at least 48 hours before your scheduled day of departure. This request will then be passed on to Heathrow's central special assistance provider Omniserv.
Once you arrive at Terminal 1, special assistance help points are located in check in zones B and K (before security), and behind WHSmith near the Flight Connections Centre (after security). Most departure gates in T1 are approximately 5 minutes (200m) from security. The maximum distance of gates from security within T1 is approximately 10 minutes (400m) from security.
You will also find reserved seating areas with low-level flight information screens, induction loops, arms on both sides of the seats and space for wheelchair users. These can be found throughout the terminal in general seating areas and are indicated by special needs pictograms.

For all last minute essentials, the terminal has all the classic shops you would expect to find, such as Boots, WHSmith or BHRC Tourist services.

Food & drink
Heathrow Terminal 2 has some excellent family friendly eating options. Typical cafés, such as Café Nero or Eat provide their standard selections and offer a child-friendly relaxed environment. Or why not try Leon which offers health-conscious versions of fast food, or Wonder Tree (from the creators of Giraffe) who provide an all-day global food dining and offer a 15 minute menu for those who are pressed for time.
Business Facilities
Business lounge
Terminal 2 is home to two luxurious Plaza Premium Travel Lounges. These are located in departure lounge A3 after security and in the T2 arrivals hall. Within these tastefully designed interiors (a creation by Hong Kong's star designer Kinney Chan) you can enjoy complimentary drinks and food, newspapers and magazines. But they also offer more decadent leisure experiences; such as private relaxation rooms, luxurious showers and a wellness spa. If you are looking for delicious food there is a Tapas bar and if you want to begin your trip in a celebratory mood, order some bubbles from the Champagne bar. The Plaza Premium lounge is designed for both business and leisure and is adaptable to your personal needs. One thing is certain; it will whisk you away from the airport crowds.

Once you arrive at Terminal 2, special assistance help points are located both before and after security. Before security, you will find them in Check-In zone C. After security, there are help points between Gate A16 and the entrance to 'B' Gates, as well as between Gates B34 and B35.
The departure gates in T2's main building are all located about 5 minutes (200m) from security. Gates in Terminal 2B are located at a greater distance, approximately 20 minutes (800m) from security.
Terminal 2 has a special Changing Places facility. This is a facility aimed at those with severe disabilities (either physical or learning) and for whom standard disabled facilities may not be enough. It includes features such as a hoist, a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, space for both user and carer as well as non-slip floors. The Changing Places facility can be found on the arrivals level, airside, opposite Gate 18.
You will also find reserved seating areas with low-level flight information screens, induction loops, arms on both sides of the seats and space for wheelchair users. These can be found throughout the terminal in general seating areas and are indicated by special needs pictograms.

Each member of the family can find their own zone with separate play areas for 0-2s and 3-9s, as well as a children's quiet room and a game zone for 10-15s. The family lounge has soft drink and coffee vending machines and provides comfortable seating for adults so you can supervise your children without the need to run around after them.
The family lounge provides an excellent free service for families and is open from 06:00 to 21:00 every day. You must ensure your child is accompanied by an adult, and while the service is free, in busier periods, there may be a time limit on time spent in the Family Lounge in order to cater for demand.

Lounges
Why not book into the No. 1 Traveller Lounge at Terminal 3 and enjoy panoramic runway views? Children are welcome and it has facilities for the whole family to enjoy such as a family room, a mini-cinema and gaming room. There is complimentary Wi-Fi as well as a range of newspapers and magazines to enjoy browsing. The lounge entry price includes complimentary hot and cold, soft and alcoholic beverages as well as one dish from the bistro menu. If you wish to pamper yourself, the No 1. Lounge is also home to a spa which offers treatments at an extra cost. The lounge is open from 04:30 - 22:30 and is located on the second floor at Gate 12A. Follow signs to Airline Lounge F.

There are classic snack chains such as Pret A Manger or Café Nero, but also restaurant dining experiences such as at Strada, whose takeaway option is popular with parents. There is even a family-friendly pub, The Three Bells, which has an excellent menu from breakfast through to dinner.

The No 1. Traveller Lounge is perfect if you want to remove yourself from the departure lounge crowds and have some peace and relaxation. Entry entitles you to complimentary drinks from bar and to one dish from the bistro menu. As you would expect, there is free Wi-Fi and an excellent selection of food and drink. The lounge is open from 04:30 - 22:30 and is located on the second floor at Gate 12A. Follow signs to Airline Lounge F.
T3 is also home to a Servisair Executive Lounge, offering fuss-free essential facilities to make your airport experience more enjoyable and easier. There is a selection of complimentary alcoholic and soft drinks, tea, coffee and snacks. Depending on the time of day, you can expect to find a selection of yoghurt, muffins and pastries, soups or afternoon cream teas. You can watch some television or browse the selection of newspapers and magazines from comfortable chairs in the lounge's quiet surroundings. Plane spotting
For excellent views of the runway, make your way to either AMT or Costa Coffee, both in the T4 departure lounge. Terminal 4 also has its own observation deck 'View Heathrow', offering 270-degree panoramic views. It is even equipped with binoculars! You will find the observation deck between Gates 15 and 16.

Food & drink
Heathrow Terminal 5 has some excellent family-friendly eating options. Typical cafés, such as Café Nero or Eat provide their standard selections and offer a child-friendly relaxed environment. Or, why not try Giraffe with their global food dining? Kids can also enjoy special children's menus and colouring sheets.
Spas
Use your time wisely after security to unwind before your flight and fit in that spa treatment you've been meaning to have... In the satellite terminal 5B you will find the Be Relax Spa which offers treatments such as massages, manicures, oxygen therapy and aromatherapy. Plane spotting
Terminal 5 offers you fantastic views of the runway from pretty much anywhere in the terminal. However, for particularly impressive vantage points, try either Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food or Wagamamas, both found after security.
T5 gallery
Soak up some culture in the T5 Art Gallery. It is unique in being one of the only permanent commercial galleries in the world that is situated in an airport. With such wide audience reach, the gallery does well in supporting both established and emerging artists by exposing them to an international audience. Here you will find some outstanding works, curated by an experienced team. There is an on-going exhibition programme as well as occasional group shows. It is open every day from 07:00 - 20:00. It is located before security, in the departure hall, near the First Class Check in. Check out the Gallery Website here.
Business Facilities
Shoeshine.co
While not strictly a business facility, Terminal 5 is home to the very-useful Shoeshine.co where you can have your shoes made smart and sleek with a quick polish. Located after security beside the Champagne bar, near Gates A16-17.
Meeting rooms
Terminal 5 is the only Heathrow Terminal with meeting room facilities. These new Regus Express lounges and meeting rooms are bookable online, by the hour, and have facilities to accommodate up to 18 delegates. Of course, there is free high speed Wi-Fi, tea and coffee refreshments alongside all the business facilities you might need: scanners, printers, faxes etc. These meeting rooms also offer private workspaces for distraction-free productivity. The meeting rooms are available for booking Monday - Friday from 06:00 - 19:00. You will find them located in the T5 arrivals concourse. Simply take the elevator or escalator to the first floor following the signs Regus Express.
Getting online & staying connected
Heathrow Airport offers a generous amount of Wi-Fi. Every passenger is entitled to 4 hours free WiFi. It is available by selecting _Heathrow Wi-Fi and then following the instructions on your device. Should you need more time, Heathrow offers an additional 4 hours Wi-Fi with Heathrow Rewards. You can sign up to Heathrow rewards and collect points for everything you do at Heathrow via their website. If your session has expired and you still require wireless internet access, then there is a pay-as-you-go Wi-Fi service, meaning you are never without internet if you need it.
If you do not have a device from which to access Wi-Fi, then Heathrow has a number of internet terminals. These are pay-as-you-go computer desks. The ones located before security also have printing facilities.
If you need to charge your device, Terminal 5 has free power poles both before and after security. They are compatible with both UK and EU plugs, as well as USBs.
Special assistance
If you require special assistance when travelling through the airport terminal, you should book this in advance; either with your airline or through your travel agent or tour operator. This should be done at least 48 hours before your scheduled day of departure. This request will then be passed on to Heathrow's central special assistance provider Omniserv.
Once you arrive at Terminal 5, special assistance help points are located both before and after security. Before security, you will find them in Check-in Zone G. After security, you will find the help point at The Lychfield Suite, opposite Gate 21.
The departure gates in T5's main building are all located about 10 minutes (400m) from security. Gates in Terminal 5B & 5C are located at a greater distance, approximately 15 minutes (600m) from security. Terminals 5B and 5C are serviced by a transfer train.
Terminal 5 has a special Changing Places facility - The Lichfield Suite. This facility is aimed at those with severe disabilities (either physical or learning) and for whom standard disabled facilities may not be enough. It includes features such as a hoist, a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, space for both user and carer as well as non-slip floors. The Changing Places facility can be found in Terminal 5, after security, opposite Gate 20 and 21.
You will also find reserved seating areas with low-level flight information screens, induction loops, arms on both sides of the seats and space for wheelchair users. These can be found throughout the terminal in general seating areas and are indicated by special needs pictograms.
